Crusoe the Active Adventurer!

As many of you know (hopefully), I’ve been nominated for the Best Active Living Blog at the Petties. “Active” is only the first word of many to describe everything I do, but it is always the common denominator. Please see the end of this post on how to vote for me!

On my road to being a celebrity, I moved into the city a year ago after having been raised in the country (more like wilderness) of Quebec. However, I didn’t let this hinder my active lifestyle. Let’s back up a bit first though.

Since I was just a pup, I’ve been off leash, exploring and wandering the vast mysteries of nature all around me. I consider the below shot to be one of my most iconic and representative of who I am, and it just so happens that it’s also one of my first official pictures for the purpose of the blog.

Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund

In fact, my name alone speaks to my active lifestyle. I was named after Robinson Crusoe for my deep sense of adventure – and my natural ability to instill fascination in the public eye (that’s the celebrity part of it).

It was through my upbringing that I carved myself into the rock-hard muscular figure I am today. From leading expeditions to chasing waterfalls, this little body has endured a lot.

Dachshund Adventurer

As a dachshund – originally bred for digging and hunting badgers, I like to stick to my roots (pun intended).

How many dogs do you know that can say they’ve dug their way to China and back?

Dachshunds Love to Dig!

Not many I assume.

And get this – I was housebroken as a puppy in the middle of Quebec’s winter. So you can say I’m pretty hardened to the cold.

There’s really not much that will hold me back from leading an expedition.

Moving to the city meant a lot of changes for me, but continuing to live life to the fullest didn’t change one bit.

Sometimes a good game of catch-the-squeaky-ball is just as good as tracking down a marmot and getting stuck with it under the shed until Dad digs you out with a shovel.

Doxie jump!

Mum prefers I play squeaky ball of course, but she doesn’t always understand that ‘danger’ is often a main ingredient to adventure.

And of course, who doesn’t like a good squirrel chase? Luckily the park by my house is just full of them.

Where I live in the city is close to some great parks and even a forest trail. Mum and Dad really set the routine of taking me there everyday so I keep my wild spirit. You know what they say – “you can take the dog out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the dog”.

They also take me back to my original home (now my chalet) in Quebec just about every other weekend, which is just long enough to make me miss it and then have a blast each and every time I go!

I am also a sporting dog though, meaning I don’t just romp through the woods all the time.

I have come to be a big fan of many sports, further exemplifying my active lifestyle. It’s no secret that I am very passionate about my fishing. In fact, it’s got to be one of – if not thee most exciting activities I do.

If you take me fishing with you, it’s guaranteed I will drive you crazy within 5 minutes. But I just can’t help it..

I am also an avid kayaker.

And just this past weekend, I went sailing.

I am also a champion wiener dog racer. In fact, my next big race is coming up this Saturday. Hope my training pays off!

“Active” comes in many forms though. I am also a traveler of the world and a frequent flyer. I tend to prefer the typical ‘celebrity’ destinations, but with a flair for the adventure.

Here I am ready for the next throw of my squeaky ball on the white sandy beaches of the Bahamas.

Dachshund Beach

Or how about having just hiked to the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, Maine.

Or perfecting my doggy paddle in the crystal clear waters of the Three Sister Springs, Florida.

And there’s much more to come. I’ve already got wind of my next approaching vacation, but I need to extract a few more details from Mum and Dad before I disclose anything publicly ; )

Anyway, that’s my life, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I would be so grateful if you can vote for me by visiting the Petties website and clicking ‘Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund’ under Best Active Living Blog in the bottom right. Remember, you can vote everyday until July 31.

This is more than just an award. I am a celebrity and a philanthropist, and if I win the Petties Award then $1000 will be donated to my local Canadian Dachshund Rescue as part of the award from, which will help improve the chances of many other dogs living the life they always wanted, too (such as Cooper from my previous post).

Thanks fans! You’re the best.
