I have some very bad news. It is to my great and utter disappointment that I have incurred an injury.
I wish I could say it that it happened while doing something adventurous – like a bear fight, but unfortunately that was not the case.
Actually, this is a bear we saw right outside my house just about a year ago. I asked Mum if I could go scare it away, but she didn’t let me. I would have done a number on it though..
Anyway, enough delaying, here’s what happened –
I fell off the bed.
Now hold on! Before you make any assumptions let me explain a little. I DO have a ramp on our bed. So this was not an attempted dismount. This was a plain ol’, fall off the bed. Mum and Dad were even in the room. I was just playing with my toys as usual, but I guess I stepped too close to the edge where the blankets were fluffed up. So my footing gave way and I fell.
I know it seems crazy that such a veteran explorer and expedition leader such as myself could slip up like that. But, I guess it happens to the best of us. Heck, maybe I even needed this. You might even call it a little ‘grounding’ (excuse the pun).
So Mum and Dad noticed the next day that I was limping on my front-right leg (the injury happened late the night before). I tried not to make a big deal out of it, but they noticed nonetheless (moms don’t miss much). So, you guessed it, they decided to take me to the vet, which was exactly why I didn’t want to make a big deal of it.
Here’s a picture of me on the way to the vet – eyes closed in dreaded anticipation.
The vet was a nice lady with a gentle touch though, so I’ll be happy for that. I always prefer a woman’s touch ; )
Anyway, she massaged my back and arms, feeling around for anything abnormal. Luckily I passed that test, but she said my shoulder and chest seemed swollen.
She then checked my eyes, ears, and then did something unspeakable when she took my temperature! I won’t repeat it here, but let’s just say that if it had been a male vet I would have filed for a lawsuit.
They decided I should get an x-ray just to be sure. My x-ray turned up no broken bones. So the conclusion was that it was just a bruise or sprained shoulder. Phew!
The vet said I should stay off the shoulder for as much as possible, and that I should put regular heat/cold on it.
I don’t mind the heat pad, but I hate the cold pad. I get very grumpy when Mum holds that cold thing on me.
For the first couple days after it happened, I was still limping a little and showing a bit of effort when lying down. I also have this weird click in my shoulder whenever I walk. I almost feel like my brother Oakley with his cat bell.
Mum has fenced me off within my own room, keeps a close watch on me when I go outside, and has blocked all couches and beds so I can’t jump on them. If you ask me, this is a bunch of B.S. – I am a celebrity recovering from an injury, not a criminal on house arrest.
Not pleased.
They took me out on the boat for a calm cruise though. It was nice to get out and about again and feel the breeze in my face. I also have to say that I’ve been getting a lot of treats, which is nice – but I have to tell Mum to stop giving them to me. I am going to lose my impeccable physique if I keep eating treats and not exercising.
So I’m supposed to take it easy for two weeks. I don’t think I’ve even gone a day without a walk expedition in my life.
We’ll see how it goes. Hopefully I’ll be back to normal and leading expeditions before I know it. I’ll just keep my paws crossed that it’ll be as simple as that – as I’m not sure how much more of this I can take.
I’ve even had to take up video games again.
So I want to give a big huge thanks to all my Facebook fans who gave their ‘Get Well’ wishes. It’s really encouraging to see I have so many people who care about me : )
Thanks fans. I’ll keep you posted to my progress.
Keep milkin’ it,
~ Crusoe
